We are delighted to share a heartwarming success story from our recent involvement in a community project that truly touched our hearts. JKA Renovations had the privilege of being the selected contractor for PPG’s remarkable refurbishment project at Mamelodi Secondary School in Pretoria.
As part of PPG’s COLOURFUL COMMUNITIES® program, the New Paint for a New Start initiative saw a R1.5-million refurbishment investment at Mamelodi Secondary School, demonstrating the company’s commitment to enhancing educational environments globally. JKA Renovations, under the leadership of Juan Saunders, Justin Mulder, and Benjamin Sibanda, played a pivotal role in the extensive three-month project, contributing to the upliftment of the entire school.

The project involved a comprehensive transformation, including repairs, painting of walls and roofs, refreshing window frames, doors, and more. Over 4,500 liters of Prominent Paints and PPG paints were skillfully applied, resulting in a vibrant makeover that completely revitalized the school’s appearance.
The project successfully refurbished over 10 school buildings, encompassing 33 classrooms, railings, road markings, curbs, parking bays, signage, and more. The dedication of the volunteers was truly inspiring, and when the last coat had cured, the transformation was nothing short of remarkable.
One of the most memorable features of the project is an 88m² mural in the school’s central quad. Designed by the talented mural artist, Murray Cowan of Strange Harvest, the mural creatively represents the school’s pillars of academics, sport, and culture, using 16 striking colors.
In addition to the aesthetic enhancements, PPG’s commitment extended to providing the school with 35 new non-magnetic whiteboards and 35 new blackboards.
Principal Mogo Selahle expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “Gratitude is the brush that colours the world with kindness. We are indebted to PPG for selecting our school as the beneficiary of this year’s Colourful Communities project. The generous paint donation has brought vibrant possibilities and endless creativity to our environment.”
PPG Sales Director, Protective & Marine Coatings, Africa, Danie du Preez, highlighted the company’s commitment to social accountability, emphasizing the importance of improving educational facilities in the communities they serve. Du Preez shared, “We are gratified to help beautify Mamelodi High and to create learning spaces that inspire bright starts for its learners.”
The success of this project further reinforces PPG’s dedication to its global initiative, which, this year, focused on beautifying and protecting schools worldwide throughout June, July, and August. In total, PPG invested over US$1 million (R19,000,000) in support of 27 schools, providing more than 10,000 volunteering hours across the globe.
As we reflect on our involvement in this meaningful project, JKA Renovations is proud to have been part of a transformative journey that will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
